The Football Association is set to withdraw its backing for Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president, according to The Telegraph. The move follows Infantino dropping his plan to sell World Cup stakes to private investors.

The FA is expected to send a letter confirming its position. The vote is scheduled for March 2027, and by mid-July more than 200 federations had already pledged support for Infantino’s bid.

If confirmed, the FA would become the second federation to formally pull its support. Earlier on Monday, the Football Association of Wales said it would not back the Italian-Swiss executive, citing failures in governance, leadership and judgement.

Europe’s stance has hardened. Last week UEFA and its 55 member associations threatened to boycott FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, if the share-sale proposal proceeded.

Pressure on Infantino remains high. UEFA has threatened legal action and told him to resign or face a motion of no confidence.
