Fabian Ruiz has criticised TVE after the Spanish broadcaster subtitled his mother’s remarks in a documentary on the national team because of her Andalusian accent. His family are from Andalusia.

The PSG midfielder and Spain international was a substitute in Spain’s second match at the 2026 World Cup, a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia.

“To finish, if anyone did not understand me during the interview, you can subtitle my Andalusian accent,” he said to DAZN.

“She is everything to me. She taught me the values I have today, I thank her for who I am. I do everything for her, because without her I would not be here.”

“I am proud of who I am, of my origins, of my region, of Los Palacios, of being Andalusian, of Andalusia.”
