Since joining Liverpool, Alexander Isak has struggled to replicate the electric form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers. He joined the Reds in a Premier League record move but the former Newcastle United striker has still not managed to score a goal in the league for his new club.

Isak has scored one goal for Liverpool and it came against Southampton in the EFL Cup.

Isak’s biggest issue has been consistency in front of goal and considering his goal record in the past, it is a huge surprise to see that.

What Liverpool think about Alexander Isak’s struggles

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed what Liverpool think about the Sweden international striker.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano said:

“Alexander Isak basically didn’t have any kind of pre-season. Okay, he was working separately from the group and also with a private trainer, but it’s not the same thing as having a proper pre-season starting in July and working for two months until the Premier League starts. So it’s something completely different.

“Also on the mental point of view – Isak was basically in a kind of war with Newcastle to leave the club and have the opportunity to go to Liverpool. So it’s been a complicated summer, especially physically.

Isak needs more time to get completely fit

Isak has been unlucky with fitness issues since making the move to Anfield this summer.

The striker did not have a proper pre-season and the moment he arrived at the club, he did not look the same striker that we all watched shine for Newcastle.

Isak’s Liverpool chapter remains a work in progress, one that depends on whether he can adapt mentally and tactically to the demands of Anfield’s relentless stage.

Liverpool are confident he will come good and they have every reason to believe that considering his past record, quality and potential to get even better.
