Liverpool lost Mo Salah.

The Egyptian King, 34, reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. Following a falling out with club top brass - including Arne Slot - a decision was taken on Salah’s future.

The two-time African footballer of the year is now free to negotiate a bumper contract elsewhere. One issue for the left-footed attacker is that lucrative offers have not exactly been streaming in.

Saudi and MLS interest expected

The biggest clubs in Saudi Arabia - who were once prepared to give Salah a contract worth up to £1.67m per week have been conspicuous by their absence in this transfer chase.

And MLS sides - who would dearly love to have Salah on board - just don’t have the financial firepower to match his demands.

Salah moves closer to Besiktas

The Turkish Super Lig side are making an ambitious effort to get the Egyptian talisman on board.

Besiktas will offer a contract deal worth up to €12m (around £10m) per year - around half of what Salah was making at Anfield on his last deal.

There is still some way to go on this deal however with Besiktas putting out a statement denying transfer business was taking place.

That is all part of the game says Fabrizio Romano - who has now confirmed contract talks have been taking place between Salah’s entourage and the Istanbul side.

Romano confirms Salah in talks with Besiktas

“Many questions on Mo Salah, what’s happening, why Beşiktaş deny, why Beşiktaş do official statements,” Romano says.

“Guys, the decision of Beşiktaş to deny the story about Mo Salah is because Beşiktaş, as of today, have not closed the deal for Mo Salah, and so until the deal is closed, is signed, is completed, they have to be careful. It’s absolutely normal.

“Beşiktaş are in negotiations for Mo Salah for sure, there is a conversation, they sent a proposal to Mo Salah. But before saying ‘Mo Salah’s done deal, here we go, close the travel, medical, whatever,’ we have to wait for an official agreement.

“And as of tonight, we still have to wait on the next steps before saying that Salah is a new Beşiktaş player. So let’s be careful, let’s wait, let’s not be in a rush.

“And at the right moment I will update you on Mo Salah, because he also has proposals on the table from MLS, proposals from Saudi, and Beşiktaş want to be careful until they have a full agreement done with the player.”

Salah leads Besiktas revolution

It is expected that talks will resume for Salah on Monday - paving the way for Besiktas to land one of the biggest deals in their history.

The third force of Turkish football behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce Besiktas are seeking to bounce back after a poor campaign.

They have signed Leandro Trossard in an ambitious deal and hired former Fiorentina and Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano. Salah of course is a different proposition altogether given his stature in the game.
