Fabrizio Romano confirms Real Madrid talks with Manchester City over Rodri deal | OneFootball

Real Madrid are closing in on two major signings that would all-but complete Jose Mourinho’s squad for the 2026-27 season. A deal for Yan Diomande is close to being agreed with RB Leipzig, while one is now being worked on for Rodri.

In the last couple of weeks, Real Madrid have targeted Rodri as their desired midfield signing after being priced out of a move for Enzo Fernandez. Florentino Perez had originally ruled out any move for the Manchester City and Spain star, who recently won the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball, although he’s since given the green light for a deal to be sought.

Real Madrid sense an opportunity to sign Rodri given that he’s got less than 12 months remaining on his Man City contract, and after agreeing personal terms with him, they have now opened talks with the Premier League club, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Work to be done before Rodri agreement is reached

Given that Rodri’s contract expires next June, Real Madrid believe he can be signed for well below his market value. Romano has reported that they are willing to spend roughly €50m to get a deal done, although this is well below the €80m that Man City are reportedly asking for to allow a sale to take place.

There is no doubt that Rodri would be a fantastic signing for Real Madrid. He showed during the World Cup that he is still one of the best midfielders in the world, and the fact that he is so desperate to join means that a lot of effort will be made to ensure that an agreement with Man City is reached before the end of the summer.

For now, it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can come closer to an agreement, although there is definitely work to be done from Real Madrid’s side.
