Fabrizio Romano offered some clarifications regarding the future of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana who has suddenly been linked with West Ham United.

The Cameroonian made his first appearance of the season on Wednesday night, as Ruben Amorim’s men took on Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Unfortunately for Man Utd, Onana picked up from where he left off last season, with another abysmal display between the sticks.

Andre Onana infuriates Man United fans again

Although the entire team produced a miserable display, the 29-year-old should have done better to deny the Mariners’ opener, as Charles Vernam’s half volley beat him at his near post, and he was certainly the main culprit on the second goal, as his ill-advised exit allowed Tyrell Warren to score the of easiest tap-ins.

The Red Devils pulled off a late comeback to send the tie to penalty shootouts, but Onana was agonisingly poor, as he only managed to make one save out of 13 attempts, while Bryan Mbeumo’s miss gifted Grimsby a historic victory.

This morning, circulating media reports claimed that West Ham are willing to offer the former Inter Milan star an exit route away from his Carrington misery.

However, Fabrizio Romano swiftly shot down these rumours, insisting that the Hammers haven’t made any approach to sign Onana.

Why Onana could leave Man Utd despite lack of West Ham interest

The Italian journalist explained as much in the most recent video uploaded on his official YouTube channel, adding that the struggling Man Utd goalkeeper is willing to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place, even if Senne Lammens ends up joining Amorim’s ranks.

But despite ruling out a move to East London, Romano left the door open for a potential Onana exit. The transfer insider believes that the situation could change in the coming days and weeks, and the Cameroonian might sense the urge to embark on a new career chapter.

Onana has been previously linked with suitors in the Saudi Pro League and Turkiye’s Super Lig, and as Romano notes, the transfer market will remain open in these countries for additional weeks. This could give a lifeline for a large section of United fans who can no longer bear the presence of the error-prone goalkeeper at their beloved club.
