Liverpool have launched their offensive to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United this summer. The Reds have had an opening bid in the region of £110m rejected by Newcastle, but that won’t be the end of the saga.
With a spend of approximately £260m already this summer, Liverpool have flexed their muscles in the market already. Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have all arrived already this summer in a historic window.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, they ‘insist’ on Alexander Isak being the next marquee signing.
“Liverpool have opened official talks with Newcastle for Alexander Isak as opening bid has been sent.”
“Newcastle rejected as The Athletic reports… but player made clear his desire to join Liverpool. No talks over a new deal so far.”
“#LFC plan to bid again and insist soon.”
Any move for the 25-year-old would break the British transfer record, which Liverpool have already done once this summer through the £116m arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool are set to push again for Isak, but Newcastle United must have replacements lined up before allowing an exit. They’re huge admirers of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and are willing to cough up the money to sign the Serbian. However, recent reports suggest that Sesko could be leaning towards a move to Manchester United instead.
The other two names heavily linked are Brentford’s Yoanne Wissa and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Newcastle have already had a £25m bid rejected for Wissa, with Brentford holding out for over £40m for that deal. Whilst Aston Villa value Watkins at around £60m, again making that deal tricky for Eddie Howe’s side.
