It’s not just Chelsea who are in for a big summer – their sister club Strasbourg also had something of a disappointing season (in part because of Chelsea), and will want to continue the forward momentum they had over the last few years.

The French club have done much better in the transfer market than the Blues in recent years, and look set to continue making smart pick-ups. They want to strengthen with an alternative to Ben Chilwell at left back, and think they’ve found one.

Del Blanco wanted by many clubs because of two factors

Fabrizio Romano has today reported that the French side are “leading the race” to sign “talented fullback” Mateo Del Blanco.

The Argentine, who plays for Union Santa Fe in his native country, has a Spanish passport, which makes a move easier to pull off. He’s also got a €3m release clause, as Romano notes, meaning that there will be a lot of interest from across Europe for him.

Romano insists that Strasbourg are “leading the race” for him.
