There’s fresh news to report in the ongoing transfer saga of German striker Davie Selke. Sensationally enough, the Bundesliga club at which Selke once launched his career may be interested in taking him back. RB Leipzig – who once paid €8m to acquire Selke while still playing in the 2. Bundesliga – are linked with a move for the 30-year-old.
Frankfurter Rundschau are currently confirming a Sky Germany report emerging earlier today. Selke continues to remain far apart in contract negotiations with his current newly-promoted Bundesliga side Hamburg. A move to the German Red Bulls still seems far-fetched, however, as Selke likely couldn’t be considered a contender for the starting XI.
Or could he?
German national team strikers Niclas Füllkrug and Tim Kleindienst had to wait quite some time to earn their place in the German Nationalmannschaft.
Selke helped Leipzig achieve promotion to the German top flight in the 2015/16 season. He would net four Bundesliga goals for the Saxons the following season before being sold to Hertha BSC. At his peak with Hertha in 2019, Selke was valued as a €20m striker.
The former German Olympic representative still hasn’t been capped at senior level and now maintains an estimated market value of €3m. A 22-goal-haul in the 2. Bundesliga last year may nevertheless fuel speculation that he can revive his career.
