The 2025/26 Premier League season will officially begin on Friday night with champions Liverpool hosting Bournemouth at Anfield.
Manchester United take on Arsenal at Old Trafford in the first blockbuster fixture on Sunday, which should be an entertaining affair.
Ahead of the new campaign, let’s have a look at the Premier League’s fastest starters on the opening day.
United have a rich history since the formation of the Premier League, and unsurprisingly top the table.
The Red Devils have picked up the most wins (22) and the best goal difference (39) when it comes to the opening day records.
The Mancunian giants have secured 2.21 points per game (PPG) from 33 matches (four draws).
Chelsea come second in the opening day standings (20 wins and seven draws), followed by Liverpool (19 wins and 10 draws).
The duo have a similar PPG of 2.03, but the Blues have a superior goal difference to the Reds (35 to 31).
In terms of PPG, Manchester City (1.93) and Arsenal (1.91) make up the top five, but the Cityzens have played five matches less.
City’s PPG is impressive, given they were not a dominant force in the division until Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008.
United had a dismal 2024/25 campaign, picking up just 42 points from 38 games. The club secured their worst-ever return in a single season in more than five decades (1973/74).
The Red Devils will be aiming for a stronger start this time, having spent more than £200 million to bolster their attack with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
The club entertain the Gunners in their curtain-raiser at Old Trafford on Sunday and can make a big statement with a solid victory.
Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten in 21 straight league games against the ‘Big Six’, and United have the chance to end the long streak.
The club will be aiming for their first league win over Arsenal since September 2022, having lost four and drawn one of the last five meetings.
