FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken out in recent hours about his relationship with Lionel Messi. He took the opportunity to make a promise to the Catalan fans.

In 2021, when Lionel Messi left Barça for PSG, president Joan Laporta was at the helm of FC Barcelona. Speaking recently to 3Cat, the Blaugrana boss gave an update on his relationship with the Argentine international.

"We had a very good relationship for a long time. When we didn’t renew his contract, it soured a bit. Then, more or less, we managed to restore our relationship. We are convinced that we will have the chance to give him the tribute he deserves," assured the Barça president.

It should be remembered that at the time, after a long saga, Barça was unable, financially, to fulfill the expected contract extension for Messi, who subsequently chose to join PSG.
