Sky Germany reports that 1. FC Köln are eyeing up Augsburg’s Keven Schlotterbeck as a potential summer addition. The 18-year-old – though not as highly rated or valued as his slightly younger brother Nico – remains a rock solid left-footed centre back. Keven has scored 10 Bundesliga goals in 128 German top flight appearances for Freiburg, Union Berlin, Bochum, and his current Bundesliga club.
After back-to-back successful seasons on loan at Bochum (seven goals in two years spent at the Revierklub) Augsburg signed Keven away from Freiburg for €2.5m last summer. The Weinstadt-native did very well for the Fuggerstädter, scoring three more goals and registering an assist in 18 Bundesliga appearances for Jess Thorup’s FCA.
Keven’s offensive prowess was nevertheless overcome by Cedric Zesiger’s monster defending. Zesiger ended up taking Keven’s place in the starting XI. After Augsburg completed the permanent purchase of Zesiger this summer, Keven became expendable. Köln – after seeing their deal for Ajax centre-back Ahmetcan Kaplan fall through – are poised to strike.
A Keven Schlotterbeck capture would certainly earn Thomas Kessler and the Effzeh administrative team plenty of bonus points with club supporters. Keven counts as an absolute fan-favorite among the German footballing public. So too does the attacker Köln are meant to be signing shortly, Marius Bülter.
