FC Porto have agreed a strategic partnership with FC Cincinnati as part of the Portuguese club's international expansion, the club said in a statement. The protocol is intended to deepen Porto's presence in a key market and marks the start of a more structured approach to North America.
André Villas-Boas called it a new international stance, with the United States a priority where Porto are yet to open a first football school. He said the agreement took about a year to align and covers player development, scouting and commercial work. He described it as a fundamental step in a country he said is set to host the 2026 World Cup, praising Cincinnati as one of MLS's most innovative clubs.
Porto identified FC Cincinnati for governance quality, the strength of its sporting project and a long-term vision. Villas-Boas also highlighted powerful investors and a young, dynamic partner recognised for infrastructure, player development and academies.
The signing ceremony took place at the Museu FC Porto, attended by both club presidents. From the American side, Jeff Berding underlined the importance of the agreement.
Berding said the partnership will be a key pillar of Cincinnati's strategy over the next 10 years. He charted a decade-long rise from an idea to MLS, plus a world-class stadium, training base and a first trophy.
He said their next decade aims at global respect, powered by the sport's growth in the United States, and that learning from the best is essential.
