It was a week to forget for OGC Nice. After the defeat against SC Freiburg on Thursday, which leaves Le Gym pointless after four encounters in the UEFA Europa League, they were beaten by FC Metz on Sunday, after they came from behind to win 2-1.
Franck Haise was furious after the defeat to Freiburg and he was seething again on Sunday. The defeat to Metz leaves Nice in ninth and, miraculously, only three points behind AS Monaco, who are in sixth, a position synonymous with European qualification for next season. Olympique Lyonnais are in seventh and level on points with the Principality club.
However, Haise says that he isn’t looking up the table, quite the opposite. “If we’re talking about European objectives and getting into the top seven, I don’t think that is where we should be looking,” began the Nice manager on Sunday.
He continued, “In any case, I am not looking there, not at all. I am looking at what’s happening behind us, but I am not looking at what is happening in front of us.” Haise adds that there are “lots of things to sort out”, whilst also voicing frustration at having to “change all of [his] principles”.
Nice face Olympique de Marseille upon the return from the international break. A win would certainly change the mood around the club.
