Manchester City star Oscar Bobb has revealed the nature of a fitness scare earlier in the ongoing international break.

The 22-year-old was the subject of concern among both club and country supporters after sustaining a muscular problem during Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium prior to the international break.

Initial reports and confirmation from the national side’s head coach revealed that the Norwegian winger had undergone a scan after feeling discomfort, casting doubt over his involvement in Norway’s international fixtures.

Bobb’s availability has been closely monitored in recent days, particularly with Manchester City already battling a growing injury list, and the wide forward completed 90 minutes in his nation’s first of two fixtures this month.

Rayan Cherki was also recently ruled out for two months with a thigh problem, while Abdukodir Khusanov and Rayan Aït-Nouri have also suffered setbacks of their own leading to withdrawals from international duties.

Further withdrawals from international squads by Rico Lewis, Nico O’Reilly, and John Stones only added to the sense of unease around Pep Guardiola’s squad fitness heading into the season’s crucial early run.

For Oscar Bobb, though, the outcome appears to be more positive than initially feared, with the player himself offering reassuring words while away with Norway.

Speaking to Norwegian media outlet Dagbladet, Bobb has offered insight into the nature of a scare that led to a scan with national team medical professionals, but has insisted that he is entirely fit and ready for action.

“It was nothing,” the Manchester City academy graduate said, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness.

He continued, “I felt something in my thigh, and then it turned out there was nothing.”

Oscar Bobb’s clarification comes as a major boost for Pep Guardiola, who has been keen to re-integrate the forward into his plans this season after a frustrating 2024/25 campaign.

As covered in previous reports, Bobb missed most of last season with a serious leg injury sustained just days before Manchester City’s Premier League opener against Chelsea, disrupting what had been a highly promising breakthrough spell.

Looking ahead, the Norway international will conclude responsibilities alongside Erling Haaland with Norway, before returning to Manchester for a testing run of games against Manchester United, Napoli, and Arsenal.

With Cherki unavailable and questions around the depth of Pep Guardiola’s attacking options, Oscar Bobb could find himself with a significant opportunity to establish a regular role in the weeks ahead, but will face a battle for a starting spot with Savinho.

Should his positive update hold true, Oscar Bobb may yet emerge as one of Manchester City’s most important attacking weapons as the club look to steady their form following back-to-back defeats before the international break.
