Ferj has released the VAR audio from Lucas Paquetá’s goal that opened the scoring in Botafogo v Flamengo on Sunday.
Botafogo players appealed for a foul by Vitão on Matheus Martins in the build-up, but on-field referee Bruno Arleu de Araújo treated the coming together as a normal collision after Vitão lost possession.
In the review, VAR official Rodrigo Carvalhaes de Miranda noted the ball went between Vitão’s legs and that there was arm contact with Martins, but judged it did not have enough force, so the goal was confirmed. He also said a teammate stood in front of the goalkeeper without interfering and was in an onside position.
Paquetá had put Flamengo ahead before the interval. Botafogo equalised after the break, only for Erick Pulgar to restore Flamengo’s lead.
Flamengo advanced to the Campeonato Carioca semi-finals and will face Madureira. Botafogo move into the Taça Rio against Boavista.
