Fermin Lopez targets Champions League for Barcelona after experiencing “worst summer of my career”

It has been a fantastic summer for eight Barcelona players in particular as they helped Spain win the 2026 World Cup, but on the other hand, it was painful for Fermin Lopez. He would almost certainly have been in the squad had he not picked up an injury towards the end of last season, which ultimately ruled him out of contention.

Understandably, Fermin was in a bad place after that, as he told Tot Costa (via Sport). However, he was also very happy for his club and international teammates for their success in North America.

“It has been the worst summer of my career. I was at my best, everything was going well for me and this injury came a little untimely. I have learned many things, but I have had a very bad time. Thanks to my family, my partner and my friends I have been able to move forward. At first I couldn’t watch the games because I also wanted to be there playing and I couldn’t even move my foot. After that I got along better and I was very happy for Spain and, above all, for my Barça teammates.”

Fermin has match in mind for his return

Fermin’s focus now is on making his return to action. He’s progressing well, and all being well, he sees himself being back on the pitch before the start of the new season.

“I feel better every day, I have no discomfort and that is very good. If everything goes well, I could have some minutes (in Joan Gamper Trophy). I’m already looking forward to playing. The intention is to return with motivation and fuel. Last season I already showed what I can contribute to the team and now I have to keep improving.”

Fermin is targeting another positive season for Barcelona, and in particular, he wants to end the club’s long wait for a sixth Champions League title.

“We all want the Champions League. These two years we have been close and I think this can be the year. We’ve been together for many years, we’ve lived through a lot of things, good and bad moments, and I think we’re ready to win the Champions League, win the league again and fight for all the titles.”
