Following their La Liga triumph, which was confirmed with their 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the last El Clasico of the season, it was time for FC Barcelona to celebrate as they completed another successful season.
However, that sense of joy was slightly dampened by the injury suffered by Fermin Lopez, who picked up a problem in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during the match against Real Betis on the penultimate La Liga matchday of the season.
The midfielder has now undergone successful surgery, as confirmed by FC Barcelona, with the procedure carried out at the Hospital of Barcelona by Dr Antoni Dalmau Coll under the supervision of the club’s medical team led by Dr Ricard Pruna.
The operation went as planned. According to Mundo Deportivo, the expected recovery time is around three months, although this will ultimately depend on how he progresses in the coming weeks. If everything goes as expected, Fermin should be ready to return for the start of next season.
It is a significant setback for the midfielder on the international stage as well. Fermin had been included in Luis de la Fuente’s preliminary 55-man squad for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and was widely expected to make the final 26-man list set to be announced on May 25.
Instead, the injury rules him out of the tournament, bringing a disappointing end to what had been a strong season for the Barcelona midfielder at the international level.
For Barcelona, the focus now turns to his recovery process, with the hope that Fermin Lopez can return fully fit and ready to contribute again from the very start of the new season.
