As per VoetbalPrimeur, after initial reports from Feyenoord Transfermarkt, the Rotterdammers continue to work hard on the signing of Valentín Gómez.

The 22-year-old Vélez Sarsfield captain seems close to signing for the Rotterdam club, but due to the Argentine’s past, “finalising his arrival is no mere formality”.

Feyenoord have reportedly been negotiating in Argentina over the past few days for Gómez, for whom a bid of five million euros has allegedly already been received. Argentinian media report that an agreement has been reached, while insiders told RTV Rijnmond that an agreement between the clubs is expected. Voetbal International also reports this.

While Gómez looks to be on his way, everything revolves around the medical. The Argentinian left-footer has suffered a serious knee injury in the past, which previously cost him transfers to Palermo and Cruzeiro. One consideration revolves around the fact that Gómez didn’t undergo a medical procedure to ensure his knee wouldn’t frustrate future sales opportunities. He chose not to, which means Feyenoord will also have to undergo a critical medical examination, RTV Rijnmond writes.

Feyenoord’s commitment to medicals was evident a few weeks ago. The arrival of Björn Meijer fell through because there were too many doubts at De Kuip about the Club Brugge left-back’s availability, especially with the Champions League qualifying rounds just over the horizon in August.
