Algeria's adventure ends at the FIFA Arab Cup

Algeria has been knocked out of the race for the crown in the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 after falling in the quarter-finals to the United Arab Emirates in a dramatic penalty shootout, 7-6, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Fennecs let a very attainable qualification slip away against an Emirati side they dominated for large stretches of the match, particularly in the first half.

In the semi-finals, the Emirates will face Morocco, who booked their spot in the final four after edging Syria by the narrowest of margins.

The other semi-final clash will see Saudi Arabia take on Jordan, who overcame Palestine and Iraq, respectively.

For the record, Algeria were the defending champions, having lifted the trophy in the previous edition with a 2-0 victory over Tunisia in the final.
