FIFA greets ex-Flamengo boss Renato Gaúcho after Vasco appointment

Vasco have confirmed the appointment of Renato Gaúcho, and the news drew a swift nod from FIFA on social media.

FIFA said in a post, “Professor Portaluppi”, and shared a photograph of the coach on the touchline.

Renato Gaúcho was among the leading coaches at the Super Mundial de Clubes in the 2025 season, guiding Fluminense to the semi-finals.

He will lead Vasco for the rest of the campaign under a deal running until the end of 2026. The contract has no release clause, so if the parties end it early, no fee is due.

Flamengo also have a new head coach, announcing Leonardo Jardim on Wednesday, 04. His official presentation is set for Thursday, 05, at CT Ninho do Urubu.

With Jardim, Flamengo return on Sunday, 08, to face Fluminense in the Carioca final at the Maracanã, kick-off 18:00 Brasília time.
