FIFA has asked Rio state to intervene after the Fla-Flu consortium disputed Maracanã handover terms for the 2027 Women’s World Cup final, according to Globo.com.
The operator contests the exclusive-use window, pitch protection and who pays for permanent and complementary upgrades. A 24 June letter sought enforcement of the stadium contract with the state, city hall and the CBF.
Under the contract, FIFA’s exclusive use starts 14 days before the first match, with the pitch protected for 28 days before and five after. Only the final is confirmed, and the Maracanã is a candidate for the opener.
The clubs want a shorter protection window to limit lost dates before the men’s pause. The tournament runs from 24 June to 25 July.
FIFA operations chief Thiago Jannuzzi says the concessionaire argues those windows could affect its performance metrics with the granting authority. The consortium warns of possible penalties, higher fees, lower scores or financial adjustments.
FIFA also wants a review of stadium improvements and an action plan. The concessionaire disputes liability despite acting as the Stadium Authority under signed annexes.
The state says there is no decision yet. FIFA will not comment on talks and says it is working with partners, and the consortium did not respond.
Works will be shared by the state and Rio city hall. The letter copied chief of staff Flávio Willeman, a Flamengo vice-president, and other secretaries.
