Former Inter star Luis Figo defends Carlo Ancelotti and feels that doubts over his future at the club are ‘absurd’ despite a defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals: ‘In football, you can’t win all the time.’
Italian tactician Ancelotti is under fire at Real Madrid as the Merengues sit second in the La Liga table and have been eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal.
However, Figo, a former Inter, Barcelona, and Real Madrid star, believes that the treatment the Italian tactician has received in recent weeks is unfair.
“I know this world has a short memory. It’s hard to see beyond the most recent game. In Madrid, it’s even more true,” the former Portugal winger told Gazzetta.

“What I find very strange is that everyone would question Ancelotti’s ability, who is also the most successful coach in Real Madrid’s history.
“It seems absurd to me that after the Champions League match against Arsenal, the only question asked on the radio and TV was about his future. In football, you can’t win all the time, and that is also true for Real Madrid.”
During the same interview, the ex-Inter star said he would support the Nerazzurri against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals but admitted PSG were the favourite to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
Ancelotti hit back at criticism during a press conference on Tuesday, insisting that he should not be tougher on his players.
