According to reporting from Globo and Lance, Flamengo are experiencing a moment of transition marked by both strong on-field results and changes among the playing staff.
Filipe Luís has reached a milestone, leading Flamengo in 50 matches with a record that stands out in the club’s recent history. Since taking over in October 2024, Luís has guided the team to 33 wins, 14 draws, and just 3 defeats—an impressive 75.3% points return. This is the third-best performance by a Flamengo manager in the 21st century, behind only Jorge Jesus’ celebrated 81.6% spell in 2019-20 and Joel Santana’s 77.7% in a critical run back in 2005. During this stretch, Flamengo have suffered the fewest losses among leading clubs worldwide during the same period, matched only by Galatasaray’s three defeats—albeit in fewer games.
Luís’ tenure has already delivered three trophies—Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Carioca, and the Supercopa do Brasil—plus the Taça Guanabara, the latter a symbolic reward for the best campaign in the opening phase of the Rio state league. Remarkably, he has more titles than defeats as first-team manager. Looking ahead, Flamengo face a demanding test against Bayern Munich in Miami, with a chance to extend their run in the Club World Cup. The knockout format leaves no margin for error, with extra time and penalties if the score remains level.
While stability on the sidelines has been a constant, changes are occurring within the squad. One notable departure is that of Rayan Lucas to Sporting CP. The 20-year-old midfielder, a survivor of the tragic Ninho do Urubu fire in 2019, moves to Portugal on a season-long loan and joins the B team. Rayan was widely viewed as one of the club’s brightest youth prospects and contributed to two Libertadores U-20 triumphs in 2024 and 2025, as well as last year’s youth World Cup. He made eight first-team appearances, split evenly across the past two seasons. Upon joining Sporting, Rayan said, “It’s a childhood dream to play for such a big club... I am grateful for the opportunity and will give my all.”
With Rayan’s exit, goalkeeper Dyogo Alves is now the only remaining survivor of the Ninho tragedy in Flamengo’s ranks. The circumstance serves as a poignant reminder of the club’s recent history and the personal journeys of its young players.
In summary, Flamengo’s current momentum is the product of a potent mix of strong leadership from Filipe Luís, squad evolution, and the drive to meet the challenge of top-level continental and global competition.
