Filipe Luís said he would not have brought on Agustín Rossi for a shootout, insisting Andrew would have kept goal if the Flamengo against Botafogo quarter-final had gone to penalties.
The clássico stood at 1-1 until 38 minutes, then Erick Pulgar ensured it did not reach the spot. According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo won 2-1 on Sunday 15.
The coach said Andrew is a high-level goalkeeper and that keepers benefit from rhythm with consecutive games. He added Andrew would have stayed in for any penalties.
Rossi has saved 10 of 26 penalties for Flamengo. On Tuesday 10, he kept out Renato Kayzer of Vitória to seal a win in Salvador in the third round of the Brasileirão.
Andrew was rarely tested against Botafogo, playing his second clássico for Flamengo. He debuted in defeat to Fluminense and also started a 7-1 rout of Sampaio Corrêa in the Carioca.
He has started the last three Carioca rounds. On Thursday 19, Rossi should return in goal as Flamengo face Lanús of Argentina away in the Recopa Sul-Americana.
