Following three consecutive second-placed finishes under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal will finish top of the pile this season having sealed the title with a game to spare.

Victory over Burnley on Monday night put Arsenal on the brink of glory and the title was confirmed less than 24 hours later with Manchester City failing to pick up all three points against Bournemouth.

Iraola, a childhood friend of Arteta, was quick to congratulate the Gunners boss after his Cherries side played their part in helping decide the title race.

“I have to congratulate Mikel and also Arsenal, and Kepa [Arrizabalaga] who was here with us last season,” the Spaniard told reporters.

“I am very happy for them, I think they have done such a special job in the past seasons and it was a little bit unfair they were always there, close, but I think finally they have what they deserve.

“I am very happy from that side and we were really trying to get Europe and focusing on Bournemouth, but now I think also we have to congratulate Mikel and all of his team.”

While the result has been celebrated wildly in the streets of north London, the point was equally as important for the Cherries with European football now guaranteed for the first time in the club’s history.

Iraola added: “We have a special group of players. They are consistent and always there. Right now there is nothing about my future in my head, I just want to celebrate and push it.

“We have Europa League, next let's maximise our options. Can we take the last Champions League spot?

"I still don't know where I will go but I'm in no rush, let's finish on a high."
