Opposing manager: Rita Guarino

Rita Guarino was brought into West Ham during the winter break earlier this season and has done an admirable job of guiding the Hammers away from the threat of relegation, sitting 10 points above Leicester City.

The Italian did get off to a tough start to life in England, losing away to Chelsea 5-0; however, since that heavy defeat, she’s helped to oversee four league wins, which also includes an impressive current three-game unbeaten run.

West Had managed just one league win before Guarino’s arrival and had suffered a defeat to the now-relegated Portsmouth, who finished bottom of the WSL2, so the 55-year-old has more than done enough to justify her appointment midway through the season.

Previous meeting

City ran riot the last time we went down south to face West Ham, which was in the quarter final of the Subway Women’s League Cup, with a five-star display from five different scorers securing our spot in the final four.

A blistering start was thanks to Kerolin and Lauren Hemp, who put us two goals to the good after just eight minutes, with a Grace Clinton strike just before half time restoring our two-goal lead following Riko Ueki’s goal.

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Laura Coombs would go on to seal our spot in the semi-final with goals in the second half and round off a perfect afternoon and extend what was at the time a 14-game unbeaten run.

Last time out

City come into this final league game of the season in high spirits after a magnificent comeback last weekend in the semi-final of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Chelsea.

We found ourselves 2-0 down after 60 minutes, after goals from Erin Cuthbert and Sam Kerr handed the host an advantage, but late strikes from substitute Mary Fowler and top scorer Bunny Shaw took the game to extra time.

With City riding the crest of a momentum wave, we took full advantage when Shaw headed home her second of the afternoon and put us ahead for the first time against the Blues.

While it was the incredible comeback that made the headlines, there was a remarkable late fingertip save from Khiara Keating to deny Sjoeke Nüsken, whose header appeared destined for the top corner.
