Fiorentina are on the verge of appointing Fabio Grosso as head coach on a two-year deal with an option for a third, with contracts approved and an announcement expected soon, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 2006 World Cup winner would bring his Sassuolo stint to a close after their relegation to Serie B.
Calciomercato.com reports that talks began in March, with an informal understanding to revisit the move once Sassuolo’s fate was sealed.
The appointment would reunite Grosso with sporting director Fabio Paratici, who handed him his first coaching role in Juventus’s youth set-up. They would link up at senior level for the first time since those early days.
Grosso is expected to favour a 4-3-3, mirroring the shape Paolo Vanoli used in the second half of the season, and a sizeable summer rebuild is anticipated. Armand Laurienté has been floated as a left-side option, while Manor Solomon’s loan is not expected to be made permanent.
