Today’s Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan has been suspended due to a medical emergency to midfielder Edoardo Bove.
The match officials have confirmed that the match is currently suspended after the 22-year-old collapsed. The fixture will instead be played at a later date.
Fiorentina and Inter kicked off a match in Serie A this evening.
The two teams began the match on schedule at 18.00 CET.
And the match proceeded as usual for the first fifteen minutes.
However, in the sixteenth minute of play, shocking scenes caused the match to come to a halt.
Shortly after a disallowed Inter goal, Fiorentina midfielder Bove collapsed.
The Italian international is currently on loan with La Viola from Roma. He has been a regular starter for the Tuscan side under coach Raffaele Palladino.
The reason for Bove’s sudden collapse did not have to do with any contact.
The 22-year-old collapsed away from the action.
This appeared to be the result of a medical emergency.
There was a parallel to the shock cardiac arrest that then-Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered on the pitch while playing for Denmark against Finland at the Euros in 2021.
Both Inter and Fiorentina players looked distraught after Bove collapsed. Several players from both teams were visibly in tears.
The two sets of players surrounded Bove as he received medical attention to keep cameras away from him.
Eventually, an ambulance arrived. The Italian international was taken to hospital to receive urgent medical care.
As a result of the shocking incident, the match between Fiorentina and Inter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi will take place at a later date.
