Liverpool return from the September international break in a position of strength. Under Arne Slot, the reigning Premier League champions have opened their title defence with victories over Bournemouth and Newcastle United, ensuring a flawless start. Their winning run has only been matched by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the opening weeks, but both clubs have since stumbled — Thomas Frank’s Brentford delivered a setback to Spurs, while Dominik Szoboszlai’s outstanding free-kick ended Arsenal’s unbeaten streak at Anfield.
Heading into a demanding run of fixtures, Liverpool sit top of the table with confidence high and key players returning at just the right time.
Much of the anticipation centres on Alexander Isak, secured from Newcastle United on deadline day for £125 million — a new British transfer record. Although the striker has had limited minutes in recent months, his quality and pedigree make him central to Liverpool’s immediate and long-term ambitions. Supporters will be eager to see whether his name features in Slot’s team sheet against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Jeremie Frimpong, another summer addition, is also pushing for involvement after recovering from the knock that forced him off during the season opener against Bournemouth. His return provides Slot with additional depth on the flanks, particularly valuable as the squad faces a packed schedule including Everton, Chelsea, Champions League and Carabao Cup fixtures.
Encouraging signs have also emerged from Liverpool’s younger players. Stefan Bajcetic, recovering from hamstring surgery following his loan spell at Las Palmas, has returned to light training. While not ready for selection, the Spaniard is expected to provide a long-term midfield option, stepping into the void created by Tyler Morton’s move to Lyon.

Jayden Danns, meanwhile, has resumed full training and could feature in upcoming fixtures. The 19-year-old forward, who impressed before injury curtailed his loan spell at Sunderland, will be aiming to capitalise on opportunities in the Carabao Cup. With Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez and Ben Doak departing over the summer, and despite significant investments in Isak and Hugo Ekitike, there remains space for Danns to showcase his credentials.
Another youngster to keep an eye on is Trey Nyoni. Despite signing a long-term contract, the midfielder has yet to make a competitive squad this season. However, his versatility shown in pre-season could make him a useful option for Slot as Liverpool balance domestic and European commitments.
The coming weeks present Slot with the challenge of managing both established stars and emerging talents. With new signings bedding in and injured players nearing returns, Liverpool appear well positioned to maintain their winning run. The squad’s depth, bolstered by record signings and promising academy graduates, gives Slot a range of new options as the champions look to assert their dominance across multiple competitions.
