Paris Saint-Germain finally got their hands on the Champions League trophy in emphatic fashion, thrashing a lacklustre Inter 5–0 in Sunday’s final at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Luis Enrique’s side looked full of energy from the off, and it didn’t take long for them to make their mark. Just 12 minutes in, the lively Désiré Doué picked out Achraf Hakimi, who slotted home to give PSG the perfect start.
The second goal was a stunner. Starting deep in their own area, PSG broke with real intent. Ousmane Dembélé teed up Doué, whose volley deflected off the unfortunate Federico Dimarco and flew past Yann Sommer and into the net.
After the break, the French side kept their foot on the gas. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia spurned a couple of good chances before Doué grabbed his second of the evening.
A classy no-look flick from Dembélé found Vitinha, who threaded a smart pass through for Doué to finish clinically into the bottom corner.
Inter had no answers as PSG continued to dominate. Dembélé once again turned provider, playing a ball in behind the weary Inter back line. Kvaratskhelia latched on to it and calmly tucked it away past Sommer.
The fifth goal came in the closing minutes, with substitute Senny Mayulu rounding off the rout. Fellow sub Bradley Barcola slipped him in, and Mayulu’s effort crept in off the near post to cap off a memorable night for the French champions.
This historic win sees PSG join Marseille, who beat Milan 1–0 in the 1993 final in Munich, as the only French clubs to lift Europe’s top club prize.
It also adds their name to the list of teams who claimed their first Champions League title in the Bavarian capital, following in the footsteps of Nottingham Forest (1979), Marseille (1993), Borussia Dortmund (1997), and Chelsea (2012).
