Flamengo have appointed Leonardo Jardim as head coach on Wednesday, agreeing a deal that runs until December 2027. He will be presented on Thursday after the morning training session.

Jardim succeeds Filipe Luís, who was dismissed after the 8-0 win over Madureira in the Campeonato Carioca semi-final. The club and Jardim’s camp had been aligning terms even before Filipe was informed. He arrives with assistants António Vieira, José Barros and Diogo Dias.

Jardim was among president Bap’s preferred options since late last year. The president contacted him when Filipe Luís’s renewal talks became complicated, although the parties later reached an agreement.

He landed in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night and spent Wednesday at Ninho do Urubu before signing. The delay was due to administrative formalities. He has already met the squad and led his first training session.

Last year he was at Cruzeiro, reaching the Copa do Brasil semi-finals and finishing third in Série A, earning direct entry to the group stage of the 2026 Libertadores. His record there was 55 matches, 26 wins, 18 draws and 11 defeats.
