According to Globo.com, the STJD prosecutor’s office has charged Flamengo over disorder around the Maracanã before and after the 2-2 Campeonato Brasileiro draw with Vasco on 3 May, and has asked for a loss of home advantage.
As the home club, Flamengo has been cited under article 213 of the CBJD, which covers failure to prevent and repress disorder at a sporting venue. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Penalties under that article range from one to 10 matches, plus a fine of R$ 100 to R$ 100,000. Both clubs were also charged under article 206 for a delayed kick-off, which carries fines of R$ 100 to R$ 1,000 per minute.
Any decision would not affect the Palmeiras game on 23 May, as Flamengo would seek a suspensive effect if punished. Even if that is not granted, the clubs’ manual allows 10 days for enforcement, so only the Coritiba fixture would need to be moved.
The clashes were mainly after full-time, when members of the organised groups Jovem Fla and Força Jovem Vasco confronted each other near the stadium. The report said the fight began on the ramp to the metro station and spread towards the area known as Favela do Metrô, reaching Rua Oito de Dezembro.
Police used stun grenades and tear gas to contain the violence. Footage filmed by witnesses shows assaults. One man died and another lost vision in one eye after being struck by a rubber bullet.
