Flamengo have sold Iago to Orlando City, with both clubs confirming the transfer on Saturday. The 21-year-old centre-back had aged out of the academy and was not in Filipe Luís's first-team plans.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the deal is worth 1.4 million dollars, about R$ 7.3 million. Flamengo previously held 60 percent of his rights and Volta Redonda 40 percent, and the Rio club have retained 30 percent of any future sale.
Iago was under contract until December this year, which meant from mid-2026 he could have signed a pre-contract elsewhere at no cost. The move avoids that scenario.
Flamengo marked the agreement with a social media message wishing the defender success, while Orlando introduced him with an ice man reference. The nod relates to his chipped penalty in the Under-20 world final against Barcelona and a cold celebration gesture.
He now has the chance to earn senior minutes in the United States, which looked improbable at Flamengo.
He captained Flamengo's youth sides to last year's Intercontinental and the 2024 edition, and lifted two Libertadores at youth level. His haul also includes Brasileiro and Copa do Brasil honours, plus a South American title with Brazil.
