Flamengo ended the early-year transfer period without making further moves, addressing key needs but still lacking a centre-forward. Planning for the mid-year market is already under way with Leonardo Jardim’s approval.

According to Globo.com, the international window closed on three March and clubs could trade domestically until 27 March, yet Flamengo sat out the late scramble. Their recruitment profile ruled out short-term punts.

The club posted a record outlay, spending R$ 334 million on three signings, goalkeeper Andrew, centre-back Vitão and midfielder Lucas Paquetá. Most priorities set by the previous staff were covered, with the centre-forward role left pending.

Flamengo bid for Kaio Jorge and opened talks over Taty Castellanos and Richarlison, who did not wish to come to Brazil at this time. A budget committed after the Paquetá deal and the desired profile contributed to an unsuccessful search.

Focus now shifts to the second window, open from 20 July to 11 September. Filling the centre-forward vacancy is the main aim, and exits could follow. Plata is available for transfer and may leave if suitable offers arrive, with Cruzeiro interested but yet to submit a bid.

Jardim still wants a centre-forward, though the approach is likely to evolve. He is prepared to assess options identified by the scouting department.
