Flamengo’s wastefulness proved costly as they went out of the Copa do Brasil at Barradão on Thursday, despite sustained dominance. Across their last two matches they attempted 46 shots and scored only one goal.
According to Globo.com, head coach Leonardo Jardim has repeatedly insisted the team are creating enough and that finishes should arrive, adding he worries only when chances dry up. He has offered similar assessments after comparable displays, and a solution still seems distant.
In Salvador he said the group work on the technique of finishing, but mistakes are also linked to confidence and the players’ mental state. He felt Flamengo controlled possession, produced 26 attempts, and were not short of attitude or effort.
Erick struck early to open the scoring, and Luan Cândido later settled the contest.
The exit cost one of the club’s targets for the first half of the season. The hierarchy had mapped out places in the last 16 of both the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores, plus leading positions in the Brasileirão.
Defeat ended a 10-match unbeaten run. Flamengo now have only the Brasileirão and the Libertadores to contest this year, and visit Athletico-PR on Sunday.
