Matías Viña was sent off and left the pitch in tears as River Plate beat Gimnasia La Plata 2-0 in the Argentine league on Wednesday 28.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Uruguayan is finally enjoying the run he lacked at Flamengo, although this early red card marked a setback in his River start.
Both bookings arrived soon after the restart. Three minutes into the second half he pulled an opponent in midfield to halt a counter and was cautioned.
He was dismissed 11 minutes into the half after a heavy tackle that caught an opponent’s ankle and brought a second yellow. River had already established a two-goal lead and saw it out.
Viña has joined on a one-year loan costing 500,000 dollars, around R$ 2.7 million at the current rate. If he features in 50% of River’s matches in 2026, an obligation to buy for 5 million dollars, about R$ 27 million, will be triggered.
Flamengo spent approximately R$ 42 million to sign him from Roma in 2024. He has two official appearances for River so far, both wins, playing 90 minutes on debut against Barracas Central before the sending off in the latest round.
