Léo Pereira was applauded by Flamengo team-mates on Tuesday after receiving his first Brazil call-up. According to Globo.com, the centre-back was cheered during the squad’s morning return at Ninho do Urubu.

Carlo Ancelotti named his squad on Monday during Flamengo’s day off, so Tuesday’s session was the players’ first meeting since the announcement. Alex Sandro and Danilo were also selected.

Now 30, Pereira has become a key figure for Flamengo. He previously played for Brazil at under-17 and under-20 level.

Of last season’s title-winning starting back line, he had been the only player never called up. He said last year he felt both hopeful and frustrated when he was overlooked.

Brazil’s March international window includes two friendlies in the United States, against France on 26 March in Boston and Croatia on 31 March in Orlando. The squad will assemble in Orlando on 23 March. This was the final call-up before the final list for the 2026 World Cup.
