Flamengo returned to Ninho do Urubu on Monday to open 2026 pre-season under Filipe Luís, aiming at the Supercopa do Brasil on one February.
According to Globo.com, they were the final Série A team back after a heavy calendar. Holidays began on 18 December and a mid-year Club World Cup curtailed rest.
Limited time led the club to remain at base despite a favourable United States offer to tour. With strong facilities on site, they judged there would be no loss.
Pre-seasons were held in the United States in 2024, 2025 and 2019. Staff liked last year’s trip, but the department felt travel made little sense now. Some starters should debut against Vasco on 21, with double sessions on Tuesday and more full-day work next week.
Day one brought extensive medicals with dentists, nutritionists, ear nose and throat doctors, an ophthalmologist, orthopaedists and physiologists. Testing continues on Tuesday before individual protocols are set.
Plans were mapped beforehand, with some players monitored during the break. Everyone received guidance, especially in the week before reporting, to avoid starting from zero.
Continuity from 2025 helped and fitness was deemed satisfactory. Last year a staff overhaul produced a sharp day-one change. Only Saúl remains in the medical room in Spain after left-heel surgery, while Danilo and De la Cruz need specific work before returning.
