Flamengo have set their transfer priorities for the second half of the year, targeting a No 10 to rotate with Arrascaeta and a back-up striker for Pedro. According to Coluna Do Fla, work is ongoing even as the squad are on holiday.
The club want a playmaker to run the midfield when Arrascaeta is unavailable. Despite having Carrascal and even Lucas Paquetá for that role, they are seeking another option, specifically a South American currently playing in Europe.
The preferred target has been identified and the club are now trying to convince both the player and his European team. The midfielder is also capable of operating out wide. Activity is expected to pick up after 20 June because of the World Cup.
Since Gabigol’s exit, the hunt for cover for Pedro has continued. The club do not intend to recruit a marquee name for that spot, believing such a move could affect the current No 9’s performance.
The plan is to add a young centre forward to bolster depth without added pressure. After investing more than R$ 260 million in Lucas Paquetá at the start of the year, spending power is limited mid-season, so the recruitment team will need to be creative.
