Flamengo are treating the coming days as decisive as negotiations to sign Thiago Almada from Atlético de Madrid move into their final phase. According to Coluna Do Fla, a resolution could arrive soon, whether positive or negative.
Internally, the club believe the deal has every chance of succeeding, though they remain cautious given the risk of late setbacks. A back-up plan is in place should talks collapse.
On Wednesday, director of football José Boto said Almada is a target and that the operation is complex for several reasons. He added that they are working on it and he is confident, but stressed the need for time and patience to secure the best conditions, noting the player will only arrive when possible.
The proposed fee is around €27 million, approximately R$ 158.2 million at current rates, rising to €30 million, or R$ 175.8 million, if bonuses and targets are met.
Flamengo have addressed key hurdles, including persuading the player to return to South American football after an initial preference to remain in Europe. Rival European offers did not materialise.
The Rio club also saw off interest from River Plate of Argentina and have aligned terms with Atlético de Madrid, with relations between the clubs described as strong. Final administrative details are being handled to complete the move.
