Flamengo will use the World Cup pause for a training camp in Portugal, their first games there since 1993, with at least three friendlies scheduled.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the delegation led by Leonardo Jardim will be based in the Algarve from 29 June to 11 July during the tournament hiatus.

On their previous visit, under Evaristo de Macedo, they played an international friendly tournament against Nacional (POR), União (POR) and Sporting (POR). As on that occasion, this year’s fixtures are unofficial.

Benfica are already pencilled in, with negotiations ongoing for additional friendlies against Falkirk FC (ESC) and Birmingham (ING). The trip will be funded by SingularSport, meaning no cost to the club.

Flamengo’s final match before the World Cup is this Saturday (30) against Coritiba in the Brasileirão. Official action resumes on 22 July against Chapecoense in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
