Flamengo resumed training on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s second round of the Copa Libertadores against Independiente Medellín. According to Globo.com, midfielder Erick Pulgar, who had been expected to return, did not train at Ninho do Urubu.
Head coach Leonardo Jardim could regain Saúl and Cebolinha, who both completed the full session after partial work last week. There is a chance the pair will be cleared for the game, with any call-up left to Jardim’s discretion.
Pulgar injured the acromioclavicular joint in his right shoulder in the defeat to Red Bull Bragantino. The initial estimate was about 10 days out, which would have made him available, but he will only rejoin full training once he is pain-free.
Jorginho remains sidelined with a left calf muscle injury sustained in the win over Santos. He is projected to return against Vitória on 22 April in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil fifth phase. On Tuesday, Jorginho and Pulgar worked with the physio in the gym.
Cebolinha was also hurt against Bragantino, suffering a fractured rib, but he has progressed and been cleared for training. Saúl is likewise back after left heel surgery and has yet to play this season. Flamengo are focused on his fitness as he rebuilds training rhythm.
Flamengo opened their Libertadores campaign with a win over Cusco in Peru. They host Independiente Medellín at the Maracanã at 21:30 on Thursday.
