Since the start of the pre-season in the summer, a number of FC Barcelona academy gems have been regularly training with the first-team squad under Hansi Flick.

Indeed, the likes of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, Jofre Torrents, and Toni Fernandez have been in the first-team dynamics since the summer and have continued in the same capacity after the start of the new campaign.

Guille Fernandez, to an extent, can be counted in the same list, as until just a few days ago, he too was a regular in first-team training.

While it is an extremely valuable opportunity for the teenage gems to train with the established stars under Flick, they have not been afforded much game time.

Barcelona gems to be released for reserve team

As such, SPORT reports that Flick plans to release Dro, Jofre, Toni, and Guille from the first-team training this week so that they can play for Barça Atletic.

Indeed, the four players will be involved in the reserve team’s first official game of the new season this coming Sunday against Porreres in Segunda RFEF.

Until now, they had not been able to contribute to Juliano Belletti’s side due to first-team demands, but Flick has given the green light for all of them to accumulate minutes with Barça Atletic.

Dro, Toni, Jofre and Guille, despite being included in several first-team squads (Guille twice and the others in all three league matchday squads), have played very little.

Only Jofre has managed minutes, when he made his official debut for the first team in Mallorca, with Flick giving him 20 minutes. All of them need playing time and rhythm. The German head coach is aware of this, and the players are eager to compete as well.

As such, from Thursday onwards, all four are expected to be under Belletti’s command and will complete three training sessions with the reserve side in preparation for the match against Porreres.
