With not much time left before kickoff in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, the Blaugrana manager Hansi Flick has issued an important update on the condition of Lamine Yamal.
The 18-year-old winger has been surprisingly left out of the starting XI by the German tactician. This comes after the youngster was unable to train with the group on Tuesday due to some physical issues.
While it was largely expected that Lamine would be fit enough to start against Athletic, Flick has opted not to take any risks with the attacking superstar.
However, speaking to the media ahead of the game, the Barcelona head coach confirmed that the young prodigy is feeling fine and can play if the team needs him.

“I have spoken with Lamine after lunch and he is fine. If we need him, he will be able to play,” said the German coach, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Flick also explained that Gerard Martin’s absence from the starting line-up was not due to defensive issues, but solely to accommodate Pedri and Frenkie de Jong in midfield.
“I am happy with how he has worked with Pau Cubarsi. The change is more related to the introduction of Pedri alongside Frenkie de Jong in midfield, and we move Eric Garcia deeper,” said the Barcelona boss.
Flick also warned of the challenge of facing Ernesto Valverde’s team, stating: “Against Athletic we have to give our best version because they are a good team with many attacking options to surprise.”
