Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick faced the media ahead of the La Liga clash against Villarreal, a fixture that also marks a personal milestone – his 100th game in charge of the Catalan giants.
With the title race intensifying and the Champions League knockout phase looming, the German coach addressed several key topics.
Starting with Villarreal, Flick showed respect for a side he considers among the most dangerous in Spain right now. Reflecting on their previous encounter, he said,
“We remember the last game, we won with luck, they had a lot of transitions, a lot of chances, and in the end, we have to keep an eye on the ball, not make mistakes, and play our style.”
Attention quickly shifted to Europe and the recent Champions League draw. Asked whether he was relieved to avoid PSG, Flick remained focused and cautious.
“All games are important, Newcastle are fantastic, we saw that when we played there, and you have to respect your opponent, everyone wants to reach the final.”

Frenkie de Jong’s injury is another major concern. Flick admitted replacing the Dutch midfielder is not straightforward, but sees an opportunity in adversity.
“We have different options; Frenkie’s quality is difficult to replace, but it gives us the chance to play others.”
On midfield injuries, he refused to look for excuses.
“All teams have this problem; we have quality, different options that work.
“I don’t look at those who can’t play, but at those who can; I don’t want to talk too much about the injured players so as not to make excuses.”
On the possibility of facing heavyweights like Chelsea, Bayern or Real Madrid later in the competition, Flick avoided speculation.
“But do you also know who we could play against? Everyone in this round is very good.
“We could face Tottenham or Atletico if we go through, it’s the same thing, we have to play at our best.”
Discussing Barcelona’s recent improvement, he stressed the importance of momentum before the international break.
“These two weeks have been important; it all comes down to how you play the game, especially against a great rival like Villarreal.
“We have seven games until the international break and it would be good to win.”

Reaching 100 matches with Barça is clearly emotional for Flick.
“It’s an honour and a dream to coach this club; I enjoy every day with the players, staff, and fans, it’s fantastic.”
When asked about delivering a decisive blow in La Liga, Flick remained measured.
“There’s still a long way to go, but it’s like last season; if you’re winning, it’s one less game to play. For me, the most important thing is to keep working hard and winning.”
He also dismissed comparisons with past coaches like Pep Guardiola.
“I don’t look at these things. At the end of the season, if the numbers are right, then perfect, but I always look at how we can improve individually.
“We are here for the players and to help them reach their best.”
When asked if his players are in the best physical condition, he noted,
“If you had asked me before the Atleti game, I would have said yes, but games change.
“Now we’re focused and want to show our best side; I think that’s something we have to do. The important thing is to win, win, and win.”
On a possible contract renewal with Barcelona, Flick left the door open.
“Why not? I’m enjoying it here, as I said before, I’m having a fantastic time, it’s an honour to coach Barça, the players are doing a fantastic job with many players from La Masia.”
Finally, he addressed internal discipline measures about punctuality.
“Surely, as a coach, I can improve a little. For me, it was stressful to look at the clock and check when they were arriving.
“I spoke to the captains, and it’s not an easy situation for everyone. It’s pressure for me, so I let them decide, since it’s about them. From now on, no one has been late,” he concluded.
