Following Real Madrid’s narrow 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday, the Spanish Super Cup will once again see two of the traditional powerhouses of the nation’s football take each other on in the final.

Barcelona were the dominant team last season, with Hansi Flick’s side securing a 5-2 victory to help him seal his first-ever silverware as a Barça manager.

However, it was certainly not the first time Flick had dominated his opponent in a final, at least as a football manager.

Flick’s outstanding record in finals

Indeed, Flick holds a tremendous record in finals – one that would even have Real Madrid be traumatised heading into next week’s final.

In seven final matches throughout his career as a football manager, Flick has never lost a game.

His love affair with decisive matches began in July 2020 when he guided Bayern to a 4-2 German Cup victory.

Just over a month later, after famously dismantling Barcelona 8-2 in the quarter-finals, he secured the Champions League title with a 1-0 win over PSG.

His ruthless streak continued through 2020 and early 2021, adding the UEFA Super Cup (vs Sevilla), German Super Cup (vs Dortmund), and Club World Cup (vs Tigres) to his cabinet.

Since arriving in Catalonia, Flick has maintained this flawless streak. As mentioned earlier, his first success came against Real Madrid in a 5-2 scoreline in this very match last season.

He followed that up on April 26, 2025, winning his second final with the Blaugrana by defeating Real Madrid 3-2 in an extra-time thriller to clinch the Copa del Rey.

Interestingly, though, Flick has never played in the final of the same competition twice, which will change next week.
