Florian Thauvin inspired Lens to their first Coupe de France, scoring and assisting in a 3-1 win over Nice at the Stade de France. It also delivered the 33-year-old his first major club honour. L'Équipe highlighted the outpouring of emotion among the Sang et Or.

He struck on 25 minutes, finishing Mathieu Udol’s fine cross after Adrien Thomasson’s clever dummy at the near post. On 42 minutes his outswinging corner was headed in by Odsonne Edouard. Nice halved the deficit just before the interval through Djibril Coulibaly, but Lens closed it out 3-1.

He departed with about a quarter of an hour remaining, duties done. Afterwards he said he felt great pride, that Lens had made people proud and that trophies are won as a team.

In the presidential stand, former president Gervais Martel embraced Joseph Oughourlian, who kissed him on the forehead. Thauvin was first onto the podium to kick off the celebrations.

Thauvin finished the cup campaign with four goals and three assists. Despite World Cup wins at under-20 level in 2013 and with France in 2018, his club cabinet had featured only a 2012 Ligue 2 title with Bastia. This triumph changes that.
