Erling Haaland once again scored against his former club as Manchester City cruised past Borussia Dortmund.
The in-form Norwegian led out his side as captain but had to wait just a little while before getting on the scoresheet.
Indeed, it was Phil Foden who opened the lead for City with a stylish effort in the 22nd minute. The England international received the ball from Tijjani Reijnders and had time to turn, pick his spot, before stroking the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the area.
Seven minutes later, it was Haaland's turn. This goal was made by Jérémy Doku who jinked past his defender and pulled the ball back for the striker who was never likely to miss that kind of opportunity.
The Dortmund defence did not learn from Foden's first effort and made the mistake of letting the City man do the same again 12 minutes into the second period.
Once again Reijnders will get the assist but it was a typical Foden finish that put it beyond the reach of Gregor Kobel.
The visitors did manage to pull one back though from a set piece as a free-kick was played right to Julian Ryerson who put in a low ball that Waldemar Anton diverted into the net.
Dortmund had chances to reduce the deficit to just one goal but ultimately City added to their tally. Substitute Rayan Cherki picked up the ball inside the Dortmund half and was able to glide through the defence and finish without much resistance.
That result means the Citizens have 10 points from their opening four Champions League games and Pep Guardiola will be confident his team can advance without the need for an extra round.
