Liverpool Named Title Favourites in New Study

Liverpool have been installed as favourites to retain their Premier League crown, according to new research from the CIES Football Observatory. The statistical model gives the Reds a 28.9% chance of finishing top of the table again, underlining their status as the team to beat.

Data Backs Arne Slot’s Champions

Arne Slot’s side were imperious last season, finishing ten points clear of Arsenal to claim the title in his first campaign at Anfield. The study suggests Liverpool are well placed to repeat that feat, backed by a combination of sporting and economic variables including passes into the final third, squad value and transfer activity.

Arsenal rank second with an 18.8% chance, Chelsea are third on 16.2%, while Manchester City, winners of four of the last five titles, have just a 14.4% probability. Manchester United are given only a 2.6% chance of ending their decade-long wait for a title.

European Outlook

The CIES model also offers projections across Europe. Celtic have a 63.3% likelihood of winning the Scottish Premiership again, while Rangers are rated at 28.9%. Real Madrid are favourites in Spain with 40.6%, ahead of Barcelona on 29.6%. Bayern Munich dominate the Bundesliga forecast at 61.4%, with Borussia Dortmund distant at 8.8%.

Statistical Edge

CIES say their approach is rooted in objective data, combining sporting performance metrics with economic strength and demographics to simulate the rest of the season. Across the 29 leagues included, Red Star Belgrade are the strongest favourites of all with a 76.2% chance of winning the Serbian title.

Liverpool fans will see this as another encouraging sign that Slot’s revolution at Anfield is built to last, with data suggesting the balance of power is firmly on Merseyside.
